The Perdido Key Area Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Brief is held on the first Friday of each month and brings the community together to learn about and discuss important issues and updates that affect local residents and businesses.
Each month a community leader will speak on a topic relevant to life in and near Perdido Key.
The featured speaker for April 1st will be Escambia County Senior Natural Resources Manager, Tim Day.
The Natural Resources Management Department provides a diverse array of vital environmental and natural resources programs. Its divisions include Environmental Code Enforcement, Marine Resources, Mosquito Control, Natural Resources Conservation, RESTORE, Water Quality and Land Management, and Air Quality Monitoring.
Of special interest to residents of the Perdido area is the Perdido Key Habitat Conservation Plan. Perdido Key is home to more than white sand beaches and stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico. In addition to nesting sea turtles, a variety of shorebirds, Perdido Key is the only home of the Perdido Key Beach Mouse. In order to protect this mouse and other endangered wildlife found on the key, Escambia County developed the Perdido Key Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP). The HCP helps balance the need for habitat conservation with human activities and development. It outlines conservation measures to prevent impacts to listed species, specifically beach mice, sea turtles, and shorebirds. The HCP also protects the very features that make Perdido Key a vacation destination: the white sand beaches and small-town atmosphere.
